Learning a new skill is not easy and so you usually find yourself been pressured either from your physical environments or from friends or other people success. It is good to challenge yourself to beat other people success, but allowing it to pressure you becomes a problem. I will list out some factors that pressurize people when learning a new skill be it in tech or any other field.

Social Media

I really don't know if you were expecting this ๐Ÿ˜„. yes, Social media is a major factor that tends to put you in pressure, must people will tell you it challenges them, while some others will tell you the get inspiration. The tech community on twitter by default gives you 60% of hypes 40% of actual serious business. In as much as I will advise you to belong to the community, I will tell you if you take everything you see too serious it is at your risk.

There is a lot to the "I just did this in my spare time"

Most of the badass developer behind most of the technologies are not showing it on this social media you are using. Be guided.

New Technologies

Mistake beginners usually have is choosing which technologies to learn is learning everything they hear their senior friends or probably see on twitter. I met a developer once who was very good at Android development (JAVA), sometime later he was already into web development doing PHP couple of months later he asked me between NodeJS and Laravel which should I advise him to do. After much discussion, I found out he wanted to learn this because of the hype that these two languages are most paying in the industry and he needs to be either one of them. This often happens to a lot of beginners without proper orientations. You often find a developer dumbing a language to trending one. And this begins to make developers learn with pressure.

Comparism

This applies to some developers who are learning or probably working under a supervisor who in their thinking are motivating these developers most at times you hear "Did you see how many applications that 11 years old boy has built you think he is better than you?" And also a lot of beginners compare themselves with other developers and put themselves in pressure and competition to be better than, lol yes this is challenges but it takes a strong person to continue the journey if you find out the person he is competing with is actually long way ahead of him/her.

Money

In as much as this is funny, it is a major factor that causes pressure. The ultimate aim is to be financially stable but this comes with a price, it does come overnight and it comes with lots of sacrifice and time. You can not start learning a skill with the mindset of making money in the next two months, Haba!.

So let see the effect of all these factors in your learning process.

Effect of Learning Pressure

Missing Fundamentals

Once you are under pressure to do anything you will often not do it well, the same thing goes to learning. you will skip most little fundamental features of this skill that could safe you from some trouble in future.

Imposter Syndrome

This is bound to happen because you will always find out that you have not learnt enough to apply for jobs and will always be scared of interviews and this can hinder your growth.

Depression

Actually this what happens when you find out that all this while you have learning you actually missed out the basic fundamental and when you can not overcome your imposter syndrome. At this point, you might want to give up and try something else outside tech lol especially when the money you expected to make is not coming when you felt it would come.

Stunted Growth

When you learn under pressure your growth becomes stunted because you are not learning what is needed for your growth.

There is a difference between learning what you need and what you feel you need

My little Advice ๐Ÿ˜

  • Learn at your pace, don't let anyone pressure you.

  • Before you compare yourself with top tech celebrities remember you don't the same resources and opportunities the had while starting and most importantly remember everyone's grace differ.

  • Make out goals for yourself. Don't kill yourself if you don't reach them at the stipulated time don't just stop.

  • Lastly don't forget to catch cruise and hype yourself for yourself ๐Ÿ™…
